How is PFAS impacting wastewater treatment plants and disposing of biosolids and what can be done about it?
Municipal wastewater authorities are receivers of PFAS discharged into their systems. PFAS is not removed or destroyed in the treatment process therefore exits the plant either in the effluent or in the biosolids.
Topics covered in this session will be:
• Source Control through in-system testing and industrial pretreatment
• Precursor transformation through the treatment process
• Effluent sampling and impact on downstream uses
• Biosolids Management and the dwindling outlets for disposal
Conclusions from WRF-5031 and WRF-5042 projects, a summary of the current regulatory landscape (including the elimination of land application of biosolids in Maine), and updates on the development of destructive technologies will be presented.
