Municipal entities face many challenges every day.  However, one area that has become increasingly more utilized is the legal system.

This presentation will examine both internal and external sources of potential “litigation” and offer advice to proactively “elude” legal issues.  It will also discuss best practices for handling judicial proceedings.

Learning objectives:

Internal sources: we will discuss personnel/labor matters, labor matters, contractor issues, damage to authority property (e.g. landslides, overflows) and the importance of having policies and procedures in place.  We will also address what an authority should and should not do once legal proceedings are filed.

External sources: we would review the challenges presented from developers, customers, and other 3rd party entities and some best practices for dealing with a variety of issues that we have faced throughout the years.

Highlight the importance of having: a Personnel Manual, Rules and Regs and other policies in place to try to avoid legal action.

With more than seventy (70) years of municipal legal experience between us, we encourage attendees to ask questions to make this more interactive.

Cost:  $45
